Are you getting dirty mate?
Something I know a lot of guys shy away from…
Remember the old children’s story “We’re going on a bear hunt”? The one you used to recite whilst sat cross legged on a super uncomfortable hard floor…
Not quite sure why you’d want to hunt a bear but fair play.
You remember the famous part "We can't go over it, we can't go under it, oh no! We've got to go through it!"
That’s the part that stands out for me when I think of it. Going through the mud.
I think you might know where I’m going with this now…
It’s the same within any endeavour you embark on.
You have to get dirty and embrace the mud, the stuff which is uncomfortable to succeed
Let me explain…
Physical & Mental Health
It’s the hard stuff that gets you results, embrace the shitty parts.
You have to push yourself physically into discomfort to get fitter, stronger and build muscle.
Turn up when you don’t feel like it.
Slow down from the hustle and bustle rush of life.
Make time for stillness and solitude.
Career & Business
It’s the dirt, the stuff where you have to get in a do ‘the work’ to grow in your career or business.
Customer relations - talk to people to spread the word.
Engage with colleagues, bosses in every corner of the business.
Own all the mess ups to move forward.
Up skill yourself to develop on progress.
Relationships
Real honest and deeper connection are built, not from all the surface level stuff, but from…
Having hard conversations
Sitting with people when they’re going through tough times
Show up when it’s inconvenient for those you love
Cheer for other success (even when you are or think you are failing)
Doing the fundamental things, the hard things, the mundane sometimes. Are the keys to long term success.
A wise quote from my mentor which will always stick with me is “The best fall in love with the boring”.
If you’re ready for that.
Let me know
